poem: “snow day”
Snow day,
a perfect time to play,
the fun is underway.
You and I,
nobody can deny,
my love for you is in endless supply.
Watching the snow storm,
cuddled together all nice and warm,
as the realm outside begins to transform.
Sipping at mugs of hot chocolate and tea,
we’ll go on a baking spree,
nobody will disagree with our jubilee.
We can make an igloo,
outside with the crew,
let’s ignore my curfew.
Listening to a merry tune,
snuggling with you in a cozy cocoon,
we can binge-watch our favorite cartoon.
You’re oh so sweet,
our love makes me feel complete,
my heart skips a beat.
Let it snow,
your cheeks are aglow,
and I’ll kiss you under the mistletoe.

book review: “laura dean keeps breaking up with me”
Recently, on my GoodReads feed, I have been seeing this one graphic novel pop up here, there, EVERYWHERE! People have been voting for it in GoodReads’ Annual Choice Awards 2019 (link to the contest), it’s been recommended to me by friends, everything! I read GoodReads’ summary of it, and it seemed like a good read, so I added it to my To-Read list. And by a miracle, somehow, my supervisor at the library I work at for school managed to get a copy of it! So, I indulged myself and read it all in one sitting yesterday. And let me tell you: I am in love with this book!

Essentially, this graphic novel is a romantic, LGBTQ+ book about a girl named Frederica “Freddy” Riley. Freddy is dating Laura Dean, the most popular girl in school. And Freddy is hopelessly “in love” with Laura Dean. The problem is: Laura Dean keeps cheating and continuously breaking up with Freddy, and then proceeding to sneak her way back into Freddy’s life. Thus, it’s an off-and-on-again relationship. (You can read the full book summary here)
When Laura Dean cheats and breaks up with Freddy for what seems like the 100th time, Freddy’s best friend, Doodle, introduces our beloved main character to the Seek-Her, a mysterious psychic medium lady who leaves Freddy with some cryptic, confusing advice: “break up with Laura Dean.”

From this point on in the story, Freddy struggles to keep moving forward as Laura Dean repeatedly enters and exits Freddy’s life, Doodle grows distant, Freddy meets a cute girl, and more! Our adorable main character learns new lessons as the story progresses, and she evolves as a character with each new revelation. And you all might remember that I am obsessed with character development!
The characters are extremely realistic, cute, and relatable! My favorites are Freddy, Doodle, and the girl that Freddy meets! I love Freddy’s confusion, as it is super realistic to those who believe they’re in love (but are truly in a toxic relationship)!
The plot draws you in and keeps you intoxicated! It’s super interesting, and I love the whole idea of it! Also, cute lil lesbian MC (MC = Main Character) is a huge plus!! ❤ ❤ ❤
It’s a superb, super cute, adorkable story that I have officially fallen in love with! I highly recommend it! For all you hopeless (and struggling) romantics, LGBTQ+ community members, and dreamers, you will adore this cute lil story! Overall, I rank it 5 out of 5 stars!
poem: “summertime”

So-cal sunshine
and sweet summer treats,
what a delight,
I’d love to stay here and greet
the beautiful world around me,
so nice and neat.
Basking in the bright summer sun,
a romance novel in one hand
and a glass of pink lemonade in the other,
suntanning the day away.
Summertime fun,
summertime sun.
Chilling by the pool,
with you by my side,
giggling as the water splashes
and the party never crashes.
Enjoying the bright summer blooms,
pink, yellow, green, and blue,
all shapes and sizes,
it’s never too soon.
I want to spend it all with you,
each second, each minute, each hour, each day,
I’ll spend it all by your side.
Summertime fun,
summertime sun,
all with you.

poem: “share the pain”
I’m floundering,
I want to help you so,
but I don’t know how
or what to do,
don’t even know what to say to you.
I want to erase all the pain
that burdens your mind
and your heart, my dear.
My goal in life is
to be there for others,
to lift them up,
to make them happy,
to help them through their troubles.
But I don’t know
how to help you.
But I don’t know,
how to lift you up.
But I don’t know,
how to be there for you.
Please tell me how
I can support you, dear,
it kills me so,
to see you this low.
I love you, dear,
more than you know.
I love you, dear,
you’re my own private angel.
But I need to know,
how to help you so.
But I need to know,
how to uplift you so.
Oh my dear,
I’m sorry that you have to hear
all the thoughts swarming in your head,
as you lie alone in your bed.
You can’t fool me,
I know you’re hurting,
You can’t fool me,
I know you’re slowly burning.
Please let me ease the pain.
Please let me see your distress.
Please let me share the pain.
Please let me soften the burden.
Let me in, my dear,
allow me into your world.
Let me in, my dear,
allow me to wipe away the tears.
I love you, oh my darling,
I adore you, oh my love.
I want to help you so,
please let me in, please let me in.

ko-fi writing request 001: “coffee shop love”
Tyler had always had a soft spot for rainy days. Just the idea of them made him giddy, thoughts of cuddles with his girlfriend and warm mugs of hot chocolate. If the weather channel predicted a day full of rain, a grin would blossom on his face, and he would eagerly prepare for the wet weather. But today? Was, unfortunately, not one of those days.
His car had broken down due to unidentified issues, he was forced to get to work by his old bike, he arrived forty-five minutes late, his supervisor got pissed at him, his irritable manager put him of the lonely solitude of dish duty, and as each second passed by, the day kept getting worse and worse. And now, as he was clocking out of work, he noticed that his worn-out yet beloved bicycle had been stolen, the lock lying discarded on the pavement.
At this moment, Tyler was so close to falling apart. Nevertheless, he decided to keep on going strong, as there had to be something good coming soon! But as he reached into his pocket, he realized that he had forgotten his home keys in his other hoodie, all the way back at his and his girlfriend’s shared apartment. Rage boiled in the pit of his stomach, but he let a sigh escape his mouth, trying to contemplate where to go instead.
Waiting outside his apartment definitely wouldn’t be fun, as their landlord didn’t approve of Tyler “loitering” outside the apartment building. He raked through his brain, attempting to find somewhere he could go for the time being. He didn’t want to have to wait outside in the grass for his girlfriend to get home, he just knew that she would fuss over him for days afterwards. But that’s when it hit him, he could just go to her place of work! A small smile appeared on his face, and gathering his belongings, he began to make his way towards her job, which was quite a few blocks away.
As he made his way to her job, it started to pour.
“Isn’t that fantastic?” Tyler grumbled, as he started to walk faster, not having an umbrella nor a jacket, nothing to protect him from the rain.
But soon enough, he arrived at her job: a small coffee shop slash bakery nestled inbetween a bank and a thrift store. He grasped the doorknob and opened the pretty purple door, a blast of warm air and the inviting scent of vanilla surrounding him as he stepped inside. A small smile bloomed on his face, feeling a wave of relief shove the rage inhabiting his stomach out.
Looking around the small bakery, his eyes scanned over customers lounging on sofas and sitting in chairs and barstools, but he couldn’t find her. His shoulders slumped, “maybe she had already headed home, left the place to one of her employees?”
Suddenly, out of the blue, the employee-only door leading to the kitchen burst open with a loud bang, slamming into the nearby wall, which was already spotted with dents and holes from the door’s abuse. The loud bang startled him, activating his somewhat anxious nature, but the anxiety mostly melted away as he saw his girlfriend glide out from the kitchens, a big tray stacked with home-baked pastries and clean teacups as well as mugs. Not yet noticing his appearance, she set the tray down on the wooden counter, wiping her slightly wet hands on her messy white apron. Tyler drank in her appearance, disheveled yet still adorable, as he always told her (“you’re so cute!” he would gush to her every minute). From her messy brown hair pulled into twin braids, to her round framed glasses. From her gray skinny jeans to her pastel-purple blouse. From her messy white apron to her cute little loafers.
A huge smile grew on his face as he strode over to her, with her still yet to notice him. As she wiped down at the countertop, Tyler learned over the counter and gave her a kiss on the lips. Startled, she looked up, a nervous look on her face which melted away as she acknowledged his presence.
“Tyler! Aren’t you supposed to be home by now, my love?” She giggled, discarding the rag on the counter and making her way around to his side. He met her halfway, pulling her into an embrace, burying his face into the crook between her neck and her shoulder. He could feel her giggle reverberate through her body, before she gently forced his face up to look at her. Leaning in, she peppered his face with kisses, before resting her forehead against his. “I missed you, love.”

poem: “evolving autumn”
Autumn breeze.
My surroundings start to freeze,
you just wouldn’t believe
all the things I’ve seen.
Autumn mist.
I need to sift,
through all of the risk,
before I end up with a fist.
Autumn hue.
Anything else just won’t do,
I want to start anew,
but I owe too much to you.
Autumn thanks.
I want to move up the ranks,
but some around can be fakes,
and thus, my progress tanks.
Autumn heat.
But then you and I meet,
and your smile is such a treat
that my sudden job becomes tough to beat.
Autumn care.
Can you blame me if I stare?
Without company, life is quite bare.
But with you in the picture, things are more than fair.
Autumn fears.
They all disappear,
and I’m suddenly able to steer,
and bid adieu to all my past tears.

I came up with this on a work shift, and I was trying so hard not to make this a love poem, but… It turned into a love poem.
poem: “dear love of my life”
Dear love of my life,
you are the light in my eyes
the stars of my galaxy.
My love revolves around you
it is for you
and only you.
The love of my life
is the boy laying in my bed,
looking at memes on his phone.
The love of my life
is the one who takes me out to dinner,
doesn’t mind when I sit beside him.
The love of my life
is the individual whom my universe revolves around
even though when others say
it really, really shouldn’t.
Dear love of my life,
i’m so in love with you,
from the scent of your cologne
to the cute voices you can make.
Dear love of my life,
please never change
you are perfect in all ways
and my love, you are
my sun,
my moon,
my stars,
my universe,
and more.
-Minah H. (yours truly)
yes, i am a cheesy, lovesick teenager & please don’t freak out, i’m mostly exaggerating as exaggeration is very, very fun
poem: “mother, i’m in love”
Mother,
I’m in love.
And I don’t know what to do,
don’t know what to say.
But I know,
I know,
I want to spend
the rest of my life,
with my love.
Mother,
I’m in love.
I’m sorry for the past,
I’m sorry for what cards I’ve been dealt.
But I can see my fairytale ending,
my happy ending.
It’s so close!
It’s so near!
Mother,
I’m in love.
I will not be a repeat of your marriage,
we will be better,
that sure is a fact.
I know I’m a little crazy,
but I’m crazy for him.
So please don’t try to stop me.
I let the words flow out of me.
I don’t know where all this inspiration comes from!
Oh.
Wait.
No.
Yes.
Maybe?
…
Yes, I know.
I’m inspired by him,
I keep moving forward,
all because of him,
and I know I’m in love.
Mother,
I’m in love.
I’ve been in countless relationships.
And yes, I use that as a joke.
At parties, I’ll playfully laugh
and count on both my hands and all my toes.
But, Mother,
I’m in love.
Why can’t you see?
He’s meant for me.
I’m meant for him.
And I don’t know where this will lead me.
But I don’t care.
Let me be,
a crazy, lovesick teenager,
oh, it’s meant to be.
He could lead me anywhere,
and I would follow.
We’re two of a kind,
we’re both too nice,
too loyal,
too generous,
maybe a little too in love.
But, Mother,
I’m in love.
And I will follow him to the ends of the earth.
He is my sun,
my moon,
my stars,
and my universe.
Mother,
I’m in love.
And I’ll be leaving soon,
for college, oh dear.
But he’ll be by my side,
he’s always lovingly by my side.
I’m a little crazy,
but all for him,
yes, it’s true.
Mother,
I’m in love.
I’m in love with him,
and I’ll always hold him dear,
in my heart,
my mind,
my body,
and my soul.
Mother, yes,
I’m in love.

book review: “everything everything” by nicola yoon
Everything Everything is a beautifully-written young adult/romance novel written by author Nicola Yoon. When I say I have fallen in love with this novel, I mean it. This was a spectacular novel, with splendid characters, a wonderful plot, interesting situations, and a gorgeous idea. This is one of my favorite novels of all time, and I 100% mean that.

Yoon weaves the tragically beautiful story of Madeline “Maddy” Whittier, a “fatally ill” teenage girl who falls in love with her new & mysterious neighbor, Oliver “Olly” Bright. Maddy has an extremely rare disease known as Severe Combined Immunodeficiency, which basically means that she is allergic to the world. She hasn’t left her house in 15 years, the only people she regularly sees is her mother and her nurse, Carla.
But out of the blue, a new family moves in next door to her house: the Bright family. And the one who catches Maddy’s eye is Oliver “Olly” Bright: tall, lean, and wearing all black. And from the moment their eyes meet, their fates are intertwined together.
One of my favorite parts of this book is the character development. In case you didn’t know, I FREAKING LOVE CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT!! The characters in this story evolve and unravel as the story follows their lives, revealing their true selves and aided them in developing. Secrets are uncovered and realities are changed. I have read this book several times, and each time, I fall more and more in love with the characters and their developments.
Usually, I try to say one thing that I would change in the book that I am reviewing, but I can’t find an actual flaw in this story. It. Is. PERFECT. Please, try to prove me wrong. PLEASE, because I can’t find a single flaw in this novel. Of course, I might be a little biased, as I’m in love with this story, but that doesn’t matter, right? (lol)
Overall, this book is gorgeous, spectacular, fantastic, splendid, lovely, and more. I am in love with it so, so, so much. From a scale of 0 to 5 (0 being the worst and 5 being the best), I would, without a doubt, rate this novel a 5 out of 5. IT IS THAT GOOD! I highly suggest giving it a try! And if you do, please tell me what you think!
book review: “geekerella” by ashley poston

Geekerella is a quirky and cute novel in the young adult romance genre, written by part-time author and full-time geek Ashley Poston. The novel follows the perspectives of the two main characters: Elle Wittimer (geeky, artistic, and in love with the book’s own version of the Star Wars fandom) and Darien Freeman (teen actor, heartthrob, and secret geek). The two characters fall in love over anonymous text messages, like your typical teenage romance novel. But the main lure to this book is that it’s supposed to be a version of “Cinderella,” but with a modern, fandom-fueled twist to it. It’s a very cute idea and it works wonderfully in the genre.
My favorite aspect of this book would likely be the geeky and loveable personality of main character Elle Wittimer. She is a wonderful character and very easy to relate to if you’re a geek/nerd/dork like me. You can feel her problems and with the words Poston uses, you can even imagine yourself in her shoes (or should I say glass slippers)!
If I could change a few things in this novel, for one, I would provide the readers with more background on Darien Freeman’s past before he became a famous actor. In addition, two words: character development! It was practically nonexistent in this novel, which is a shame because I ADORE character development! Watching characters evolve and grow is my favorite part in any form of media, but I unfortunately barely got any of that from this novel. There was a tiny bit of character development for Darien Freeman, but not enough (in my opinion).
Overall, on a scale of zero to five (zero being the worst and five being the best), I would rate this story a 3 out of 5. It’s a cute story (kind of cliche, but nothing you can do about that). I wish there was more character development and more elaboration on the personalities/backgrounds of certain characters; but overall, I thought this was a very entertaining read!
